Every Deaf child deserves a strong first language foundation.
Language deprivation is an epidemic among deaf children. And it’s fully preventable.
Language First Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating language deprivation by ensuring early, equitable access to visual language for Deaf and hard of hearing children. Our mission is to support families through direct services, community engagement, and advocacy.
Mission and Vision
The Language First Foundation exists to end language deprivation by ensuring every Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) child has a strong first language foundation through early access to visual language, family and community support, and language-rich environments, regardless of financial barriers.
We envision a world where all DHH children thrive with full access to language from the start, and where they are supported by informed families and service providers, inclusive communities, and equitable systems that value signed language and language rights.
Our Initiatives
Our initiatives invest in what matters most—early language access. By supporting families, funding programs, and expanding access to language-rich environments, we are working to prevent language deprivation and improve outcomes for Deaf children.
Our Board
Our board brings together diverse perspectives with one shared goal: protecting every Deaf child’s right to early, accessible language. Together, they provide guidance and oversight to ensure our work stays focused and grounded in our mission to prevent language deprivation.
